FAQ
🎥 Using Vintage Optics for Video & Photo
Will autofocus work with these lenses? No. All vintage optics from this era are strictly 100% manual focus and manual aperture. There are no electronic contacts to communicate with your modern camera. You will need to pull focus by hand, which is an essential part of the authentic cinematic experience.
Why use vintage lenses on modern digital cameras? Modern digital sensors and lenses are incredibly sharp, but they can often look too clinical or "digital." Vintage glass takes the digital edge off, adding organic character, unique flares, and classic cinematic bokeh that perfectly engineered modern lenses simply cannot replicate.
What kind of adapter do I need? The required adapter depends on your specific camera mount (e.g., Sony E, Canon RF, Lumix L) and the original mount of the vintage lens (e.g., M42, M39, Pentacon Six). We highly recommend using solid, all-metal adapters without internal glass elements to preserve the pure, original optical formula of the lens.
Are these lenses full-frame compatible? Most of the mid-20th-century lenses we source were designed for 35mm film, which means they easily cover modern Full-Frame digital sensors without vignetting. If a specific lens is designed for smaller formats (like 16mm film or half-frame), it will be clearly highlighted in the product description.
Do these lenses have clickless (de-clicked) apertures for video? Unless explicitly stated otherwise in the specific product description, all our lenses retain their original factory mechanics, including the standard clicked aperture rings.
